Background :

United Overseas Bank (UOB) has reported record usage of Microsoft’s Copilot as it expands the use of artificial intelligence across its workforce and branch network. The Singapore-based bank said it is among the highest Copilot users globally, with employees sending millions of prompts each day.

UOB has rolled out Copilot to its 32,000 employees, with more than 20,000 staff currently undergoing training to use the AI assistant in their daily work. The move is part of the bank’s wider effort to free up staff time and allow employees to focus on higher-value tasks.

The bank has also introduced specialised digital assistants across its branch network. By the end of the year, UOB rolled out AI-powered branch bots to more than 40 branches in Singapore. These bots help staff answer customer questions about products and services quickly.

In addition, UOB has launched similar bots for human resources and other internal banking functions. These tools help employees quickly find information about policies, processes, and internal practices. The bank has put about eight bots into use so far and plans to finish five more by the end of 2025, with another 12 planned for 2026.

UOB’s Innovation Group, formed in April 2025, leads these projects. The team works on new technology, digital skills, and better productivity. It works closely with business units, technology teams, and operations to create useful solutions.

UOB said it focuses on innovation that delivers real value while keeping strong oversight and sustainability. The bank plans to expand its technology use, strengthen its data systems, explore blockchain applications, and continue training staff so they can keep up with fast technological change.
