Background :
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced plans to launch next-generation high-speed in-flight internet powered by Starlink. The rollout will begin in the first quarter of 2027 and will strengthen the airline’s digital travel experience. The move reflects SIA’s focus on improving passenger comfort and onboard services through advanced technology solutions.
The service will be introduced in phases across the airline’s Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, along with its A380 fleet. Singapore Airlines said the full installation programme is expected to finish by the end of 2029. The airline aims to modernise connectivity across key long-distance routes worldwide.
SIA said the new system will use Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network. With more than 10,000 satellites in orbit, the network can deliver faster and more stable broadband speeds during flights. Passengers are expected to enjoy stronger connections throughout their journey, including during long-haul and ultra-long-haul travel.
The airline said customers will be able to use video streaming, social media, online gaming and large file transfers in all cabin classes. Senior Vice President Customer Experience Yeoh Phee Teik said fast and seamless internet had become an essential part of modern travel and customer expectations.
He added that Singapore Airlines already offers one of the most extensive complimentary Wi-Fi services in the industry. He said the Starlink upgrade would take onboard connectivity to a higher level and allow passengers to stay productive, entertained and connected from take-off to landing.
Singapore Airlines also confirmed that its unlimited complimentary Wi-Fi policy will continue on Starlink-enabled aircraft. The benefit will remain available to Suites, First Class and Business Class passengers, along with PPS Club members and KrisFlyer members travelling in Premium Economy and Economy Class.
