Background :

Singapore takes a major step toward climate-ready businesses with the establishment of the Council for a Competitive Climate Transition, known as C3T, bringing together government and industry to prepare companies for a low-carbon future.

The National Climate Change Secretariat and the Singapore Business Federation jointly set up the council to help businesses manage the growing challenges of a carbon-constrained environment. The council addresses three key areas: climate resilience, emissions reduction, and physical risks such as extreme heat and severe weather that affect operations, assets, workers, and supply chains.

C3T aims to align government bodies, industry players, and key stakeholders to roll out practical solutions across several areas, including sectoral transition pathways, climate disclosure, green procurement, and sustainable financing. The council also supports the rollout of Singapore’s National Adaptation Plan.

The initiative backs the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment’s decision to mark 2026 as the Year of Climate Adaptation, helping businesses spot risks and find new opportunities as the economy shifts toward a low-carbon future.

Ravi Menon, Ambassador for Climate Action and Senior Adviser at the National Climate Change Secretariat, and Kok Ping Soon, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Business Federation, co-chair the council. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu announces C3T at the SBF Post-COP30 Dialogue, a gathering that draws more than 500 participants, including business leaders, government officials, and sustainability professionals.

The discussion focuses on climate change, funding for climate action, and the National Adaptation Plan. It highlights the need for businesses in Singapore to take climate risks seriously and act on them.

The Singapore Business Federation and Maybank Singapore signed an agreement to work together on business expansion and sustainability.
